Click to show/hide quick facts about Carpal Tunnel Surgery
Carpal tunnel is located in the wrist where median nerve and tendons pass through. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when pressure is put on the median nerve. Then pain and weakness is caused.
The usual causes of the syndrome are repeated movements of wrist (hand sports, writing, etc.) or some illnesses such as diabetes or arthritis.
However, other factors that may lead to the syndrome are:
- Alcohol abuse
- Bone fractures
- Cyst or tumor in the wrist
The usual symptoms of the syndrome are:
- Clumsiness and weakness of the hand
- Numbness of the thumb and the palm
- Pain in the wrist, hand and even the elbow
- Problems with fine finger movements
Usually the carpal tunnel is being treated by non-surgical methods. However if they do not help and there is static numbness, muscle weakness or atrophy, surgery is recommended. If you choose Wellness Travels, carpal tunnel surgery will be done in Lithuania with no waiting time at all so you can schedule the procedure whenever it is convenient for you.
During the carpal tunnel release surgery the transverse carpal ligament in the wrist is cut in two. When it is done, the ligament stops pressing down the nerve inside and thus the pain is relieved. Usually the surgery is performed under local anesthesia.
There are two ways to do the surgery: (1) Open surgery – incision in the palm is made to cut the ligament. (2) Endoscopic surgery – incision in the wrist or two incisions in the palm are made then a tiny camera is inserted that is used for the surgeon to cut the ligament.

After the surgery a splint or a bandage is needed for about a week. Stitches are removed after up to 2 weeks. Physical therapy may be used to make the healing process better. The full recovery is usually seen after approximately 2 months.
As in any other surgical procedure there are certain risks involved:
- Nerve injuries
- Scar sensitivity
The standard price of carpal tunnel surgery is 1000 – 1300 EUR / 1350 – 1800 USD. However it may vary from patient to patient due to different methods that can be used.
The price includes:
- Doctor consultations and assistance at all times
