FAQs about lipo abroad

What conditions lead to the procedure? Who does liposuction?

Liposuction gives the best result when used to remove localized areas of unwanted fat after someone has reached a desirable weight through diet and exercise. It is the most effective for younger people (regardless of their sex); however, many older patients have excellent results.

Lipo has proven to be a safe alternative to surgery when removing excess body fat. It can give a desirable contour to your body. Moreover, the scarring is minimal.

The procedure is usually combined with other surgeries (such as fat transfer to the buttocks and breasts, tummy tuck, etc.).

How does the procedure go?

The procedure begins with the doctor marking the areas for liposuction on your body. It is then followed by an injection of special fluid into these areas. There are a few reasons for that: first, it makes it easier for the surgeon to remove the fat; second, the bleeding is considerably less; third postoperative bruising and pain are diminished. Best of all, the recovery is faster. Hence, the patients can get back to their normal routine sooner.

Once the special fluid is in the treatment areas, tiny incisions are made (2-5 mm). If possible in the natural crease lines. A thin, blunt-tipped, hollow rod is then inserted under the skin and carefully operated through the fat tissue. To suck out the undesired fat cells, this rod is attached to a high-vacuum hose. When the unwanted fat is suctioned, the surgeon closes the incisions and applies to dress.

What about the recovery and the result?

After the procedure compression garments must be worn for up to 4 weeks. This helps to produce smooth and even results. Yet, one can take the garments off for showering, etc.

Usually, the results are obvious instantly. Even so, there is a continuous improvement over the following 8-12 weeks since the swelling diminishes.

Note: skin surface irregularities (such as cellulite) present before surgery are not addressed by liposuction.

Following the surgery, any pain can be controlled by oral medication. Also, during the first few days, the patients should drink plenty of liquids.

Returning to the daily routine can be expected in around 1 week, and to strenuous exercise – several weeks.

Poll: do you think liposuction would help you reach the desired body shape?
How is tummy tuck different from liposuction from the belly?

The main difference is that excess abdomen tissues are removed during tummy tuck; while only fat cells are sucked out during liposuction from the belly. Therefore, sometimes these procedures have to be combined to reach the desired aesthetic result (our surgeon would always advise on the best outcome).

Which body areas can be suctioned? What is the maximum amount of fat that can be suctioned?

Possible treatment areas are as follows: abdomen, flanks, buttocks, thighs, knees, neck, face, and arms.
The maximum amount of fat to be suctioned (at one time) is capped at 6 liters.

What about the required stay abroad (in Lithuania)?

For your own safety, it is required to stay in Lithuania for 5 days following liposuction. After that, you can fly back home normally.

What about the possible complications and what if something goes wrong?

Possible complications: relatively mild and very rare. Occasionally, there are minor infections (healed by antibiotics). The most common problem is sagging/waving skin (the result of irregular fat removal or inadequate skin shrinkage over the newly contoured areas). Sometimes excessive fat removal may cause temporally depression.

The highest risk for complications to occur is the first days following the surgery (while you are still in Lithuania). In case you are feeling unwell or there is anything abnormal, you will be immediately checked upon by the medical personnel. Should there be a need for a follow-up procedure, it would be carried out for you free of charge.

The complication in the later stages of the recovery is even rarer and (most of the time) not an emergency. If they happen, our surgeon would consult you online and explain the steps to take.
