Breast reduction abroad

If you are looking for breast reduction for males, please read about gynecomastia treatment.

During the breast reduction surgery, the incisions are made in the way that the scar is left in the area around the areola or beneath the breast. This way the scars are hidden while dressed. The nipple and areola are moved to a higher position and the surplus of skin and tissues are safely removed.

In some cases, the drain might be used while performing the surgery and will be removed in the following days. Normally the patient is discharged from the clinic the next day after the surgery. Sutures (if any) are removed before your flight back home.

If only a small amount of the tissues are to be removed, the surgery can be carried out using local anesthetics (and on an outpatient basis).

Potential complications

There is a small risk of complications that may occur after the surgery. For example bleeding, slow healing, and infection. These conditions may lead to bigger scars.

While the main goal of the surgery is to make the breast look natural, there might be irregularities, asymmetry, or differences in the size and shape of the areola and the nipple area. The surface of the nipple’s nerves is being disturbed during the surgery, thereof the patient might face a lack of sensitivity there. Yet, it’s only temporal. There is also a slight risk that breast reduction patients will not be able to breastfeed after the surgery.

FAQs about breast reduction

Why people opt for breast reduction?

Patients with full, heavy breasts might suffer various problems related to the shape and size of their breasts. For example, back and neck pain, painful marks left on the shoulders because of the bra, and pain in the breasts themselves. In addition to that, some women experience discomfort by the look of large breasts or are discouraged from doing active sports. Breast reduction surgery is useful to reduce these issues or in some cases even eliminate them entirely.

How does breast reduction surgery look like? What about the result/scars?

During the breast reduction surgery, the incisions are made in the way that the scar is left in the area around the areola or beneath the breast. This way the scars are hidden while (normally) dressed. The nipple and areola are moved to a higher position and the surplus of skin and tissues are safely removed.

In the long term, the patients are happy with the new shape of their breasts and forget previous related problems.

What about the length of the stay abroad (in Lithuania) and recovery period?

To guarantee your safety it is required to stay in Lithuania for 5 days following the surgery. Patients may resume limited activities a few days after surgery and resume light activities in 7-10 days.

What about the possible complications and what if something goes wrong?

There is a small risk for complications that may occur after the surgery.

While still in Lithuania: in case you are feeling unwell or there is anything abnormal, you will be immediately checked upon by the medical personnel. Should there be a need for a follow-up procedure, it would be carried out for you free of charge.

The complication in the later stages of the recovery is even rarer and most of the time, not an emergency. If they happen, our surgeon would consult you online and explain the steps to take.
