Click to show/hide quick facts about sinus lift
The bone in the missing tooth place gradually atrophies, if it has not had enough chewing load for a long time. In more technical terms bone resorption starts – bone loss, which affects the height and width of the jaw. Sinus Lift – a procedure during which the patient’s own bone is augmented or substituted if there is not enough bone left. To make it painless, local anesthesia is applied. Upon the patient’s request, the operation can be performed under deep sedation.
At our partner dental clinic Sinus Lift may be performed using several different methods:
Our partner dental clinic applies a unique bone ring technique for the augmentation procedure. The author of this method is oral surgeon M.D. Giesenhagen Bernhard (Germany), the head of the International Institute of Implantation Pro-implant. He has conducted over 1,000 bone ring augmentations with ANKYLOS® dental implants. Long-term monitoring of the patients suggest that the success rate of operations is more than 98%. M.D. B. Giesenhagen regularly comes to our partner dental clinic to advise the patients, especially in the difficult cases.
The benefits of Bone Ring Augmentation are:
- Shorter treatment time
The duration of treatment gets shorter up to 5 months, compared with classical bone block augmentation techniques.
- Less stress for patients
Bone ring augmentation is a single-stage treatment. Therefore patients naturally experience less stress, because there is no need for the second surgery.
Bone ring helps to achieve a desired result for the front teeth implants’ aesthetics. Due to a circular ring shape, the gums around the implanted tooth look very natural.
You can find the step-by-step procedure of the bone ring technique here.

|Usually, when there is not enough bone to perform dental implantation, two-stage treatment is required. First controlled bone regeneration surgery is performed. After the healing process, in about 4-6 months, another surgery is necessary to place the implant.|
|Ring bone technique allows to perform sinus lift and implant placement surgery in a single operation.|
Some patients are afraid of the idea that a ring will be taken out of their jaw and hence refuse bone ring augmentation. Now, there is a solution for them too.
Our partner dental clinic have started to use new allogenic bone rings for the procedure. Therefore it is no longer necessary to harvest a bone ring from the patient’s jaw. Allogenic bone rings are made by Botiss company (Germany) using donors’ bone from the tissue bank in Austria. During a complex process all the organic elements are removed from the bone, thus the final product is just a frame (ring).
Controlled bone regeneration is a procedure that rejuvenates the missing jawbone. It is performed by using the patients’ own bone or bone substitutes and membranes. 4-6 months after the procedure, the bone heals and hence dental implants can be placed.
Bone regeneration prepares the jawbone for dental implantation and prosthesis.
The loss of teeth in the upper jaw, makes the bone decay from above. In such case, sinus lift surgery is required to perform dental implantation. Its goal is to raise the sinus mucosa and to augment the bone in order to place the implant (which can be done during the same operation).
